Mauna Kea Beach Sunset (365:38)

I’m skipping day 37 of my Project 365 for now. I may have some snorkeling photos to add to it, but need to get the film developed first.

December 21 wasn’t quite the “day at the beach” that my wife Jenny had in mind for her first full day in Hawaii. When we got up to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, the wind was howling. Standing on the beach was a bit like being sandblasted, so laying out half naked was not a pleasant option.

But that didn’t deter us from stopping in at the beach-side bar, Hau Tree, for their renowned Fredrico which came highly recommended by a local friend. It’s a nice blend of light rum, bourbon, orange juice, passion fruit juice, guava juice and pineapple juice. I’m not normally a fan of fruity drinks, but this was quite tasty!

After catching the sunset, we headed up to Waimea for an excellent meal at Merriman’s. Sorry, no pics from there. We were too busy enjoying the food and each other’s company.
